VSI Among Those Selected for Award

Several Northland service organizations recently had reason to celebrate with announcement of the 2022 Harrah’s Charitable Fund grants.

Awarded by the parent company Caesar’s Foundation, the grants target three main areas: helping older individuals live longer, healthier, more fulfilling lives; marshaling financial resources – and the commitment of colleagues – to promote a more sustainable world; and improving the quality of life in local communities.

Among the recipients at the recent Clay County ceremony was Vocational Services, Inc., which operates workshops in Liberty and North Kansas City that provide employment and other opportunities for Clay and Platte County residents with developmental disabilities. VSI Executive Director Kimbal Mothershead accepted the funds from Harrah’s North Kansas City General Manager Julie Sola.

Mothershead said VSI will use theirs to purchase a refrigerator in the organization’s Work and Personal Services program in North Kansas City. WPS helps people with disabilities who might otherwise not meet state requirements for workshop opportunities without additional training and services.

“A refrigerator may not sound that exciting, but this is an important component that helps an important program,” Mothershead said. “These funds are really appreciated.
