VSI Awarded Three-Year Accreditation
Vocational Services, Inc. (VSI) has received a three-year CARF accreditation for its services for Clay and Platte County residents with developmental disabilities. Recognized as the leading accreditation agency for rehabilitation services, CARF provides on-site examination of programs and services.
VSI operates sheltered workshops in Liberty and North Kansas City, as well as supported employment throughout the Northland. The organization received accreditation in Employment Services, Community Employment Services, Job Development, Job Supports, and Job-Site Training along with accreditation in Employment Services, Organizational Employment Services
The survey team, Bruce Milburn and Michael Blevins, stressed many of VSI's strengths and provided a few suggestions toward continuous quality improvements during their intense, three-day inspection of VSI facilities. They praised VSI's procedures and policies regarding the individuals who are served, as well as newly implemented computer software, VSI's accessibility plan, outcome measurements, and its positive reputation within the community. Milburn and Blevins made outstanding comments about VSI's dedicated staff, volunteers, and supporting community members.
Executive Director Randy Hylton said VSI's accreditation was significant. “We are very proud,” he noted. “We were extremely pleased that they recognized the many good things that we are doing.”
Operating three employment workshops in Liberty and North Kansas City, as well as community employment locations throughout Clay and Platte counties, VSI has bee accredited since 1991. CARF stresses rehabilitative services, an area VSI has added voluntarily to its employment services
“While we were very pleased at this report, we can still improve,” Hylton concluded. “This gives us a very positive measurement of where we are. It's very positive for everyone at VSI, from the board to the staff, but most of all for the stakeholders such as our parents, consumers and funding sources.”
VSI Celebrates Staff Recognition
Every three months VSI pauses to celebrate and recognize staff accomplishments through its Employee Recognition program.
At this time, VSI recognizes selected staff members as outstanding employee of the quarter and an outstanding new employee of the quarter, as well as, length of service, participation in the company referral program, and perfect attendance.
“We are proud of the job our staff does and we want to recognize them for their efforts,” noted Randy Hylton, executive director. “It is not uncommon to hear stories of staff going above and beyond the call of duty to ensure that consumers are receiving quality services. This event gives us an opportunity to say to them job well done.”
Highlights from the first recognition of 2005 included the recognition of the Employee of the Quarter Brenda Haymond and New Employee of the Quarter Ruth Pope. Ruth said, “I was really surprised by receiving the award and I have been enjoying my time with VSI and look forward to a long future.”
During the most recent recognition dinner, VSI celebrated the anniversaries of some of their most experienced staff including, Randy Hylton Executive Director with 30 years of service, General Manager Roxanne Dabbs, 23 years of service, and Facility Manager Dale Dabbs with 15 years of service. Other 15 year staff members include Joan Medina, Carolyn Hylton, and Phil Schlotterer. VSI recognizes the benefit to its programs and consumers by the presence of these long-term dedicated staff who bring stability in service delivery and a wealth of knowledge.
VSI recently underwent its three-year CARF accreditation survey and received excellent reviews. Surveyors were extremely positive about the VSI staff and reported that everyone they interviewed (parents, guardians and employers) all provided very positive comments regarding the staff.
