After many hours of planning and reviewing, and weeks of anticipation, everyone at Vocational Services, Inc. (VSI) celebrated the announcement of a three-year accreditation given by CARF International. This is the seventh consecutive CARF survey that VSI has received a three-year accreditation, the highest level that can be awarded.
CARF is an independent, nonprofit accrediting body whose mission is to promote the quality, value, and optimal outcomes of services through a consultative accreditation process that centers on enhancing the lives of the persons served. Founded in 1966 as the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, and now known as CARF, the accrediting body establishes consumer-focused standards to help organizations measure and improve the quality of their programs and services.
This accreditation is a result of a three-day survey conducted by CARF surveyors. The surveyors were welcomed by board, staff, consumers, community employers, family members and other stakeholders. They were toured through workshop facilities and community employment sites. The surveyors were able to see first-hand how VSI demonstrates compliance to CARF standards. They also shared interesting information and provided suggestions on opportunities to expand services. Through the survey, VSI showed substantial conformance to CARF standards.
VSI is not-for-profit organization that has been serving Clay and Platte counties for 45 years, providing vocational and rehabilitative services for more than 250 developmentally disabled individuals. With three sheltered workshops in Liberty and North Kansas City, VSI provides a variety of workshop programs and community employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities. The programs are designed to help those individuals reach their fullest potential by exercising their rights and participating in the community.
